Featured Artist: Erin Sledd Anastasia: What is your background?
Erin: Art flourishes when your background inspires you. I'm a
firm believer in changing your background to suit your mood..
Anastasia: What is your technique?
Erin: When really stumped, I just ask myself "What would
Aubrey Beardsley do?"
Anastasia: What is your involvement with the Guild?
Erin: I'm a new guild member and looking forward to increased
involvement in the graphic arts community. I enjoyed participating
in the Portfolio Review luncheon on September 21. Fellow guild
members were friendly and supportive, and I met a few potential
clients.
Anastasia: Do you have a favorite client story?
Erin: Dodie Rosekrans commissions me to create an invitation for
her Under the Sea Ball in Venice. Christian LaCroix is inspired
to create an entire season of haute couture and designs a custom
gown for me to wear to the event. The Gettys (who cares which
ones) commission a
painting series in exchange for a luxurious Belle Epoque flat
overlooking the Luxembourg Gardens, which is where I actually
paint the series.
It hasn't happened, but it's a fabulous story.
Anastasia: Anything else?
Erin: In between various commissions I am working on a stationery
product line, which I'd like to officially debut at the New York
Stationery Show in May.
Biography:
Formally educated in English and art history, Erin Sledd found
that making art gradually took over her life until it became her
life. Her career was launched when her invitation for a black
tie gala, "Moonlight over Manhattan," was awarded the
"Invitation of the Week" by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Since then she has designed over 50 invitations for gala events and fundraisers. In addition to invitations,
she has been commissioned to create paintings, logos, posters,
stationery, packaging and to design gowns and Christmas stockings.
